free like a bird, i wanna fly awayyyyyyy

Hola!
I am trying to update via iPod to see how well this goes considering this is how I'll update the whole time I'm away. You should expect many spelling errors, short entries and angry comments regarding the difficulties of posting this way. I apologize in advance. However this post is in regards to two things. 1. The airban has been lifted!! I know that there's still chances of another eruption but I am hopeful. A load of stress has lifted and I am getting ridiculously excited because exams are over and it's almost time to go. Two and a half week countdown has started! 2. My coworkers are hilarious. They have now outfitted me in Indiana Jones gear for my trip. They all chipped in to supply me with these obvious essentials: hat, whip, belt, revolver and bag. I laughed so hard. I am thoroughly entertained and flattered that they thought of me enough to go to that extent for me. It was so sweet.

Tab (should I call you Watson?), I mean a pint because I'm now the one with the revolver. Hahaha! I am now not only Sherlock Holmes of archaeolgy but also Indiana Jones. I guess that makes me a weird hybrid? Sherlock + Indiana = ?

Planes Grounded

I've been reading the news about this whole volcano thing and it is kind of amusing. Meterologists are freaking out about this ash cloud and pretending they can predict the future. They made dramatic hand movements and leapt across the weather network screen to demonstrate how the ash cloud would twist and turn and manage to make this great manuevre under Spain. The ash can "last up to two weeks", claiming this information as if it were shocking. They are also very upset with the: "The volcano began erupting Wednesday for the second time in less than a month".
Now, let's address all these issues, shall we? First, if the winds persist and don't change over the next two weeks, then yes, maybe it will dip under Spain but if that is the case, the ash will be so thin that it won't even cause an overcast. So why scare people into believing it's the end of the world and a major sun black out is about to occur? Second, the ash WILL last up to two weeks but like I said by that time air space should be back to normal because of how thin the "cloud" will be by that time. This volcano is a hiccup in comparison to Mt. St-Helen or Vesuvius or anything that we've decided to take note of in human history in regards to volcanos. People are worried about climate change? Please. Vesuvius wiped out two cities and left ash hanging around for months and there was NOT a significant climate change, not even in Italy. Lastly, and possibly what I find the most hilarious, is that volcanos generally erupt twice during an eruption. The people of Pompeii saw Vesuvius erupt twice, the first time it spat up ash and rock in preparation for the big blow which happened a few days later. So here is my message: Meterologists, stop sucking up the media attention and turning this small, mini eruption into the end of the world. The planes will be down a few days and then the chaos will be over so calm down. Stop scaring people into thinking that airports will be closed till the end of time when in reality it will be a few inconvenient days and then everything will be back up and running as normal. Holy shit, does the news have to inflate everything?!

Now that I'm done, I'm going to not worry about my flight in the next three weeks and just continue to go on as planned. Unless there's another Yellowstone Super Volcano hiding underneath Iceland that explodes in the next three weeks then I am not going to blink an eye over this. Also, here are some hilarious comments I found underneath news posts, enjoy!

"Its been established that the pressure of icecaps on the polar regions eventually created an equilibrium.
With this year being a total meltoff, the lack of incredible glacier weight on the polar caps is suspected to have strong implications for tectonic plates & magma flows.
Translation: global climate chaos (yeah, from HUMANS) can actually cause, earthquakes & volcanic action."
_____________

With bulls**t like that, who needs comedy?

"It has been established..." By who? You?

"...a total meltoff...." Artic ice was at "near normal" levels this winter

etc, etc..

The erruption in 1820 was caused by SUVs as well, I suppose.

Please leave science to those who are qualified - you are not."

"its global warming!! oh no the sun has melted another glacier. its godzilla run for your lives"

*

"How long till Al Queda takes credit for it?"

*

"Obviously, it's Bush's fault."

*

"Obviously its necessary to throw in a few virgins. Who knows, maybe 20 French tramps might equal 1 virgin. Much easier to find."

*

"Blame the Bush Administration and the Republican Party! It's there fault the Volcano exploded. Let's blame them for everything. Heck that's what Obama does and the Democrats do! Every time something bad happens, lets blame Bush. My car caught fire, Blame Bush. My cat died, blame Bush. Sounds good to me!"

*

"Folks I admit. It is my fault. I road my quad in the desert and caused climate change. So sorry."

*

"Will all Volcanos please exit the Walmart."

Thank you and Goodnight!

The Beginning ...

...Of a great adventure? We shall see. For now, I am still trapped in the tornado of exams. "Liz Extended" is a separate blog from her usual, [info]icy_illusions rants which I decided to keep apart from this new and exciting escapade which she/(I) am about to embark on. This blog will be updated as I gallivant all over Europe (not really, just Spain, England, and even Scotland) with my fellow companion, Tabitha Williams. Together we will discovery unsolved mysteries of the past in the Roman tombs of Menorca. It will be a great adventure indeed! I will update randomly throughout the next month in our preparation period before our excursion. You can follow along to the ever thrilling life (lives) of a student(s) as we get ready to become famous archaeologists. Keep checking, folks, you will not want to miss the adventures of Elizabeth Upton and Tabitha Williams!
